Dear Heaven this is BAD!!!! Undeveloped characters, stupid behaviour, world-building at the zero level (none to stupidity abounds). I read it till the (bitter) end because I gave money for it :-), and that was the ONLY reason.Examples :
1. Specialized PLANETS!!! Who in their right mind transports a petty criminal to another planet for trial?????
2. A artifact is a USB???? Really???? And in all of 300 years no-one could come up with the same thing/information? Besides it was left on the planet people went to firs, after Earth. And NO ONE came up with the idea TO LOOK THERE??? In 300 years???? Really?
3. Aramaic is untranslatable unless you can speak it??? How did MC and his parents learn it? From thin air? Ever heard of Google Translate (or their paralel of it)??
4. One of MCs searched on his own space ship for the other MC for 3 months??? And he was a college professor? WITH WHAT MONEY????
5. MCs parents left a secret ROOM in their original base camp, which was thoroughly searched a number of times, and NO ONE FOUND A WHOLE ROOM???? You only needed to measure the houses from outside and inside......

SO GOOD, please read this.
I just discovered this author. I really enjoy the writing, the way the story is told. It has action, adventure and intrigue. The characters could be real people.
Honestly, I found the book to be rather boring at times. I really wanted to enjoy it but it just seemed to drag for me.
The story is first a thriller and second a romance. The characters are good, but not great. The devolpment is strong though and the story moves at a good pace. The secondary characters are not as well developed. The author shows a lot of promise and is adept at mixing the thriller, romance, and sci-fi elements.
I totally LOVED this new Sci-Fi thriller The Artifact. This is J.E. Lorin’s first novel, although you’d never know it from the high quality of the work.
The Artifact tells the story of Dr. Bentley Blake, a Professor of Old Earth Cultures. He comes from a family of archaeologists, and his parents tragically passed away while away on an expedition in Ben’s youth. Partly because of that tragedy, Ben decides to keep his pursuits mainly academic, rarely going out on actual expeditions.
It’s with surprise then that Harlow “Remy” Oakes literally explodes into his life, charming him immediately and protecting his life as they dodge bullets. Remy helps save Ben’s brother Jamie from abduction, and they set out on a voyage to find an artifact before their abductees.
This book is AMAZING. It’s got the perfect combination of action, plot, and really interesting characters that have so many layers to their histories and personalities. It’s complex without being convoluted, and fun without being flighty. I will totally read this book more than once, and I’m absolutely dying for a sequel!
